Calcium Gel

Calcium Gel Application & Advice

Our Calcium Gel is fortified with calcium. This calcium is not benefiting the health of the nail, it is purely present to increase the bonding process with the keratin of the nail plate.

The Calcium gel is a one-component gel that is of medium viscosity. It is so versatile that you can use it as a basic brush on system, as a 3 faze system and if you are quick enough and experienced you can even use it to sculpt free form.

This system has the added benefit that it files down in literally half the time. Our Calcium Gel is a true gel so you will find that you will have to buff off the product rather than soak it off.

Our Calcium Gel comes in a variety of lovely French shades.  Included in this lovely range are glitters, pearls & shimmers. The full range is outlined below:

Clears/Pinks/Whites Shimmers & Pearls Glitters
Clear Shimmering Pink Glittering Pink
Thicker Clear Shimmering White Glittering White
Original Pink Shimmering French
French Pink Pink Pearl
White White Pearl
Soft White French Pearl

Life of Bulbs

  • You should change your bulbs regularly about 2-3 times a year. An old bulb will continue to work even though it is only giving out ¾ to ½ of its original energy.

  • UV strength can also be effected by dusty/dirty bulbs, so it is a good idea to dust them at least once a week.

Length of Cure

  • Always follow the manufactures recommended cure time and check that you have the correct time for the wattage of your lamp. The longer time spent under the light the better the cure and the stronger the enhancement. Never under cure, you will be putting your client at risk of over exposure.

Looking After Your Gel

  • If your gel comes in a clear container, make sure you keep it away from your UV light. Escaping rays will semi cure your pot. The suns UV rays can also cure your gel in the pot so please make sure you do not leave your gel on your work station if it is near a window.

Brushes

  • We like to work with flat brushes either nylon or sable.  Look after your brush it is precious.  If you need to clean your brush use your gel wipe (Crystal Wipe)

For those of you who are new to Gel or those of you who have previously been using a soak of system we would like to briefly touch on removal procedures.

Checkpoint

Removing a full set

  • Cut down as normal and tidy the free edge.
  • Buff the gel off carefully. Never Buff down to the natural nail plate, always leave a very fine layer on. If you file past this you will cause trauma to the nail plate.
  • Shape as per normal.

   ***

So what are the benefits?

  • A soak off system will remove the entire product. The client has been wearing strong durable nails. With a soak of system she is left with her own natural nail strength and is bound to break them.
  • With a non soak off system she is more likely to cope without breaking them because there is a very thin layer of gel that aids strength left behind.
  • A Soak off system takes about 15-20 minutes for removal, where as buffing off the product literally only is just a matter of minutes.

  • You are no longer blending near the natural nail plate as you would do for a soak-off system. You are blending the nail tip on top of a very fine layer of gel. So no matter how many breaks occur the nail plate will be less traumatised than if using a soak off system.

Checkpoint

Repairing a broken nail

  • Shape the free-edge and buff down leaving a thin layer of gel and then using your nail preparation fluid (Absolute Nail Prep) cleanse and dehydrate.
  • Apply your nail tip as normal: cut, shape and blend. Prep your nail before primer/bonder & gel application.

   ***

As previously mentioned there are many techniques for gel. "We as a company tend to prefer the 3 step method rather than a 1 or 2 step method. We feel this method creates strong, durable and fantastic looking nails with a perfect shape."

3 Step method

  • Apply base layer just short of the cuticle area and work the gel in circular motions at the cuticle area and slowly but carefully tease the gel up to the cuticle area, leaving a margin (see diagram A).

  • After setting up the cuticle area draw and tease the gel down the length of the enhancement ensuring that you seal all sides of the free edge (see Diagram B).  Make sure that the product has not come into contact with the cuticle and sidewalls. Cure for 2 minutes if using our calcium gel with a 9 watt lamp or 4 minutes if using a 6 watt lamp.

  • Do not remove the sticky residue. Apply a second layer of gel as above, but do not cure this time. Pick up a bead of gel and starting just short of the cuticle, yet middle of the width of the nail bed  (see Diagram C) slowly tail a line of gel down the centre of the nail bed. This line/log will look quite prominent but will self-level within minutes.

  • Once it has self-leveled pop it under your light for 2 minutes if using a 9-watt lamp or 4 minutes if using a 6-watt lamp.

  • Take a look at the shape of the nail it will appear something like Diagram D.  Have a perfect image in your mind as to how you would like to finish the nail for perfection. Using a 180 or 240 grit file refine the free edge only to create that perfect shape.

  • Once you have achieved the desired shape (Diagram E) then buff the remainder of the enhancement with a white block/ sand turtle or 240-grit file ready for your final layer of gel to finish. Remember gel will not adhere to a shinny surface.

  • When refining the shape, we also break the seal around the free edge, so you will need to reseal it with a final finishing layer of gel. This final coat will also bring back the shine.

At Nail Solutions we also have other products that will complement our Calcium Gel. For further information please refer to our catalogue or contact us in person.

An increased UV cure time of 3 minutes is required on a 9 watt lamp and 5 minutes if using a 6 watt lamp. Please notice cure times are higher to allow penetration of the UV rays through the pigment.
