What file do I use to
remove the shine from the nail plate?
A 240 grit file is all you need. A purple Sand Turtle is Veronika’s favorite file.
It is 240 grit, and ideal to get into those
difficult areas such as the cuticle and side walls. There is no need to use a higher grit. A higher grit will not necessarily aid adhesion but it will
certainly thin and damage the natural nail plate.

Why do I need to prep the
nail?
When applying an overlay you need to cleanse and
dehydrate the nail plate else you will be sealing in
bacteria and moisture creating an ideal environment
for bacteria to breed.
By cleansing the nail plate with your prep
solutions you are reducing the risks
of bacterial infection and lifting.
A product will not adhere effectively if oil
or grime is present on the nail plate : the bonding
process will be interrupted and this will increase
the risk of lifting.
The nail plate needs to be squeaky clean to
achieve a retentive and lasting nail enhancement
service.

I am having problems
blending nail tips
Blending successfully comes with confidence and
understanding where your file is going.
Hold your file at the very end like a
pendulum. Use
the whole of your file.
By using the whole of your file you are
reducing the work and covering a larger area.
DON’T sea saw.
Sea sawing causes damage, friction burns and
extra work. If
you are worried, protect the natural nail plate by
placing your thumb over it
to shield it.
NEVER angle your file.
Keep your file flat and flush with the
surface, angling your file will cause damage.
For further information on blending please read
our fact sheet

Do I need a primer with the
calcium gel?
The calcium Gel can be used without primer,
however primer will increase the adhesion.
If you do not like the idea of using primer
you can use the NS Faze 1 Bonder as your base coat
for unrivalled retention.
For further information on Calcium Gel or NS Faze
please read our Calcium Gel fact
sheet and our NS Faze fact
sheet.

How do I remove gel?
Gel is resilient to solvents so it can not be
soaked off like other systems.
You have to buff the product off. File the
gel and leave a thin protective layer on the surface
of the nail plate. Never
file down to the natural nail as this will cause
trauma to the nail plate.
This form of removal actually can be beneficial. If your customer has broken a nail, you remove the bulk of the
product and leave a thin protective coat of gel,
then apply the tip and blend.
You will no longer be blending near the
natural nail but onto a layer of gel.

I don’t understand the
file grits
The higher the number (e.g. 240 grit) the finer
the file is. A
240 grit file is ideal for removing the shine from
the natural nail plate. A 240 grit can also be used to refine and remove surface scratches
from the surface of the enhancement.
A 180 Grit file is coarser than a 240 grit. A 180 file is ideal for surface filing on acrylics and gels and can
be used by professional technicians to blend tips .
A 100 grit
file is coarse and ideal for shaping the free edge.
Personally we do not recommend that you blend
with a 100 grit file.

What is lifting and how do I
recognise it?
Lifting normally occurs at the cuticle area. You
will notice that there is a whitish appearance in
your overlay at the cuticle area. This whitish appearance occurs when the product has unattached/
loosened from the natural nail plate.
The lifted area needs to be repaired else
your client will be at risk of a bacterial
infection. This
lifted area is an ideal environment for bacteria to
breed.
For further information on lifting please read
our fact sheet

How do I remove
lifting?
File below the lifted area till the lifted
product becomes loose.
Don’t file on top of the lifted area this
will only result in part of the lifting being
removed. Once
the lifted area has been removed you will need to
cleanse the area with your nail prep ready for your
desired overlay.

our fact sheet

What are “Greenies”?
A bacterial infection will first emerge as a
yellow spot on the nail plate.
This yellow appearance is the waste products
of the bacteria. As
time progresses the bacteria reproduce and so does
the waste products resulting in a green colouration.
It is best not to overlay a bacterial
infection. You
should remove the enhancement and suggest that the
client has a rest from nail extensions till this
colouration has grown out.
You can reduce the colour by filing with a
240 grit file to remove or lessen the staining. In severe cases a bacterial infection can go dark green to black.
In this case you should recommend that they
visit their doctor. A
bacterial infection is not contagious.

What causes a bacterial
infection?
Correct nail preparation procedures are a MUST in
preventing such conditions.
The nail plate needs to be squeaky clean
prior to nail tip application and overlay
procedures. Any
traces of bacteria left on the nail plate will be
trapped between the plate and the product making an
ideal, warm environment for the bacteria to breed.
All tools need to be sterilised and files
need to be sprayed with a disinfectant spray.
Fortnightly rebalances are also imperative to the
nails safety. If
a client has lifting she is increasing the chance of
obtaining a bacterial infection.

How do I get into the chat room?
In order to get into the chat room and
participate in real time conversations you will need
to download “Instant Messenger”.
Instant Messenger allows you to talk in real
time to your friends and colleagues.
You can add friends to your “friends
List” and they will be highlighted when they are
on line. In
other words every time your friends log onto the
internet you can see that they are there and you can
message them and talk on line to them in real time.
The chat room allows you to chat to a group
of friends at the same time.
